Painting on bare wood

Just so this plywood sunlight rounds a twig,
as the ghost of a green tree sneaks into a bare wood.
Just so this leaf unclenches meaning, as the roots
of words disturb the grave of a thought.
Just so a frost refrains in brittle silence,
while an old rain brings on the earth’s slow stain.
